W
e are a small, licensed, family breeder of authentic Australian Labradoodles.  Our home is in Bonita, California, a friendly Southern California community of southern San Diego County.  Our dogs are family pets.  Your puppy is raised in our suburban home with cats, kids and the echoes of the large community around us.

Canyon Court Labradoodles' mission is to produce healthy, happy, intelligent, and allergy-friendly Australian Labradoodles.  Our breeding dogs have their ancestry in the original
Multigenerational Australian Labradoodle lines from the founders of the breed.  Our breeding dogs are screened using genetic tests and health exams with strict standards.  Your puppies go home with a three-year health guarantee and a lifetime of support from Canyon Court Labradoodles.

We strive to maintain the foundational characteristics of the Authentic Multigenerational Australian Labradoodle, developed over the last 20 years.
We are proud members of the International Labradoodle Association, a breeding organization that includes ALAA and ALA, whose foundational goal is to create and maintain a healthy Labradoodle by creating guidelines for testing, breeding, and standards of temperament and physiology.

Canyon Court Australian Labradoodles’ breeding dogs undergo rigorous genetic testing, meeting the standards and guidelines set forth by Australian Labradoodle Club of America and the Australian Labradoodle Association of America, as well as other reputable breeding organizations.  (Please visit ALCA and ALAA
to find out more about these Labradoodle organizations and healthy standards of breeding, as well as to gain insight into personality and breed characteristics of the Australian Labradoodle).

Our breeding dogs undergo annual eye exams, as well as thyroid and cardiologic tests.  The dogs are proven to be clear of the genetic diseases of PRA (prcd) and vWd.  We select and breed animals with sound hips (Penn Hip tested, AVA, or OFA) and calm, mellow, easy-going personalities.

At Canyon Court, we focus on temperament and conformation breeding standards, creating healthy, fun-loving animals, well acclimated to everyday suburban family life.  Our dogs benefit from our large yard and fresh canyon air, but they also grow up around the sounds of setting car alarms, delivery trucks bringing packages, sirens in the distance, and the chants of our local high school football team practicing on the mesa above our long canyon.  When the puppies are old enough, we take them for short walks and car rides in our community. Our highly-socialized puppies are lovingly handled by children and grandparents; they live with cats and babies.

Our dogs know the suburban lifestyle, and they love it!  They are loved and cherished, and ready to be respected members in your family.  Whether your community is urban or rural, our dogs are ready to adapt to your setting, your family, and your lifestyle.  Canyon Court's Labradoodles love human interaction and they thrive on attention, exercise, and affection.  Welcome to the world of Australian Labradoodles!

The first labradoodles originated in the late 1980’s.  The breed creation began with the dream of a service dog that was allergy friendly, allowing those in need of animal assistance, but hampered by allergies (either their own or a loved one's), to work with and own a therapy/guide companion dog.

The Labradoodle “breed” began when a blind woman from Hawaii yearned for a service dog but her husband was, unfortunately, allergic to dogs. A Poodle-Labrador mating led to a litter of three puppies; this litter led to the eventual formation of the labradoodle service dog breed.

However, early Poodle-Labrador crosses yield unpredictable traits, such as the individual dog's temperament, size, coat-shedding, and the coat’s allergenic properties.  Even in the very first litter, only one of the puppies was hypoallergenic.  Only one puppy could live with the requesting couple to become a seeing-guide dog. While, the other two pups, both highly-intelligent, went on to work as companion dogs elsewhere.  The hypoallergenic, non-to-low shed coat of many Labradoodles allowed allergy sufferers to own and love a wonderful dog.  Yet the unpredictable outcome of breeding, made the breed difficult for some owners.

Fortunately, experienced breeders in Australia took on the cause of consistency, by breeding proven multiple generations of the best labradoodles to the best labradoodles with the most desirable characteristics of temperament and coat qualities, and eventually, also infusing other breeds into the breeding lines at appropriate times in order to create a new breed of dog - the multigenerational Australian Labradoodle.

The Australian Labradoodle has its roots in well-pedigreed Poodle and Labrador lines; the gene pool of this breed is further diversified, and strengthened, by the infusion of a select few other breeds, chosen to better the overall health of the Australian Labradoodle breed.  The characteristic of bone soundness (especially for smaller doodles) is solidified through infusions from the American Cocker Spaniel and English Cocker Spaniel.  The Irish Water Spaniel (a close relative to the Poodle), further enriched the coat and structural qualities of the breed.   The new breeds were added to the Multigenerational Australian Labradoodle after much thought and research, and in moderation, at appropriate times of the breed formation.

The collection of these wonderful animals’ genes come together to create a diversified and healthier genetic breed of dog, with breeding animals selected and raised with the original dream of a healthy, happy, intelligent companion dog serviceable to all people, and able to be loved and enjoyed by allergy sufferers and their loved ones.

New scientific research enables breeders to conduct extensive genetic testing on their breeding dogs; allowing us to choose only the best, genetically sound dogs to continue in the development of the Australian Labradoodle as a healthy family pet.

Hip testing and research on the environmental factors associated with hip dysplasia give responsible breeders the opportunity to work towards the elimination of hip dysplasia from the Labradoodle line.
